SAMFA 2000 -- Official Website

Pythons Football Fans: The football season is finally here, and the Parkside Pythons have geared up for another year of competition against other Southern Alberta Minor Football Association teams. We are in our fifth year in the league, and have many players returning from last season. Coaches Mayer, Wickens, Daley, Crawford, Krassman, Kobley and Bray are looking forward to the 2000 season. Some of the offensive players we are looking to for leadership and dedication in the ‘00 season are: James Haynes (QB), Matt Duncan (SB), Jordan Hauck (RB), Jason Anderson (RB) and Nathan Kobley(OL). On defense, we are looking to John Brothers (LB), Kyle Dalgleish (LB), Kris Diggle (S) and Lyndon Boychuk (LB) to stop the opposition. As well, many promising new rookies such as Angel Munguia (WR) and Jason Tarnasky (DE) will be making major contributions this season. The community support in Parkside and Medicine Hat has enabled the game of football to grow by leaps and bounds in recent years, and as a coach I would like to applaud the efforts of the sponsors, coaches, parents, volunteers and players who have dedicated themselves to this great sport. Come on out, support the teams, and watch some great football! Lloyd Bray, Head Coach
Lions The Lions are very much in a rebuilding year with Five Grade 9's returning and Four Grade 8's. The remainder of the Senior Lions will be made up off first time grade 7 and 8 players. The Lions will probably not field a JV team in 2000, however, they should have a substantial amount of Players for the Pee Wee team which will greatly assist the Lions turn around for the future. The entire coaching staff is also new for both the Senior and Pee wee teams. Despite this the Senior Lions goal will be to qualify for A side playoffs for the first time in three years and play competitive, disciplined football. Leading the way for the Lions will be grade nine players Josh morosz, Ryan Thomsen, Anthony Rosaine and Douangta Thepsouvanh. Levi Iwaasa and Tyler Wright will also contribute for the grade eights.
Comets The Raymond Jr. Comets will be returning an experienced half-back into the backfield in David Court. Complimenting him will be fullback Quincy Bourne, (an offensive tackle from the 1999 season), and Scott Stevenson at slot. Position at the opposite slot will be filled by Payton Harker. Starting quarterback will be Tyler Orr. The backfield should be sound. The offensive line is young and inexperienced. The attitude in camp this far has been very positive. The team as a whole is quite small but plans on making up for their lack in size with good timing and execution, coupled with aggressiveness on defence. Bernie Orr (Head Coach)
Hawks

The Hawks are definitely re-building this season after their strongest year ever in '99, making it to the A semi-finals. One starter, All-Star Andrew Browne returns to lead the O-Line, while his little brother Adam will take on the QB duties. Shaun Steier and Chris Eccles are poised to carry the load as tailbacks, with Danny (not so) Little opening the holes for them at fullback.. Look for Joe Cayenne(Gr. 8), Mike Corbin, and Rick Hertz to make a big impact on Defence, and for bruisers Tyler Glasgo and Josh Brotherton to anchor the line on both sides of the ball.

Look for lots of improvement for the Hawks during the season as this young and inexperienced group comes together. (Terry Korte, Coach)

Rams The Ram's are looking forward to another fun season. We have a bunch of exciting players that love to play football. We hope to have a great time and win a few games. (Kelly Spring,Head Coach)
Bears The 2000 edtion of the Coaldale Bears looks very good. With a total of 15 grade 9 Vets returing this year. With good leadership from the Offensive Backfield led by QB Jamie Shomachuuk, RB DJ Holms and Joel Edwards, Expect good things from Mitch Caldwell at the TE postion, We also have a good turnout of returning Grade 8 Players. And a whole bunch of of new grade 7 & 8 Players all told we have 35 kids in camp this year. Under new Head coach Blair Takahsi Take over the helm from Dennis Wickham. Who has moved up to the General Manager Postion. The Bears are going to make a run at the A side Championship this year

Road-

Runners

The 2000 Roadrunners will be an improved team from last year. The Roadrunners have six returning grade nines; Fletcher Kimmel, Tom Reid, John Drinkwalter, Chris McIver, Brett Snell and Ken Rogowski, from whom the team is expecting leadership from! The majority of the team are new comers with 9 players having 2 – 3 years experience with out Pee Wee Program. While the team is short on numbers it will not lack size and speed. Defensively the team will be lead by Chris McIver, Tom Reid, Taylor Allain and Ken Rogowski and Ryan Huggard. Offensively, Derek Lasante, Bruce West and Leighton Ramsey, and Cory Lalonde are expected to have a great year. The Roadrunners look forward to the 2000 season, and wish for every team in the league to have fun, stay healthy and play hard!
Stampeders After graduating 20 grade 9 players and our entire starting roster from both sides of the ball, we will definately be looking a a rebuilding season. Our returning players consist of athletes that saw limited playing time in senior level games last year. Toward the future, however, we return 28 players that played at the Pee Wee level last year and are now in the gr. 6 & 7 age group. Optomistically, this indicates that our future over the course of the next 2 -3 years will be quite good. Key players to look for at the senior level will be 1). Mark Lowe RB 2). Matt Grohn WR 3) Clinton Ogertschnig OL/DL
